WORKS > MARCH - A new path for a new visit experience
The MARCH - Provincial museum of Catanzaro was opened on 4th May 1879, it represents the oldest museum of Calabria.
The MARCH hosts the archeological and numismatic collections of the province of Catanzaro, it is the result of researches , acquisitions and private donations
The objects on exhibit trace the various phases of the civilizations that occupied central Calabria, from Prehistory to the Middle-Ages, but also reflects the passion for collectionism of ancient art typical of XVIII- XIX centuries
The wide numismatic collection is particularly made interesting by the the presence of over 8000 coins, that in past times , attracted important visitors such as François Lenormant and George Gissing.
We would like to focus the attention on the presence of some bronze fragments of an important equestrian statue of roman times, representing Manio Megonio Leone, dignitary from Petelia (now Strongoli).
